Jane Friedman announced today that Crown VP Tina Pohlman has been named publisher at Open Road Integrated Media. Ms. Pohlman will lead the e-book backlist specialist’s acquisition of new titles, expand into new verticals and oversee editorial services, according to Ms. Friedman, Open Road co-founder and CEO.

Ms. Pohlman is currently the publisher of Three Rivers Press and Broadway Books, brought in during the 2010 shake-up of Random House’s Crown Publishing Group. Prior to that, she was a senior editor at Spiegel & Grau.

She starts at Open Road on March 5.

In addition to her traditional publishing experience, Ms. Pohlman brings at least a demonstrated interest in new business models. In 2009, she founded Moulinarn Mobile Books, a publishing software company that developed literary content for the sale in iTunes App Store. The company website only lists ten titles but, hey, they include the Kama Sutra and P.G. Wodehouse classics.

“In this new landscape, Open Road’s powerful marketing platform is leading the way in helping the rapidly expanding ebook audience discover great books,”  Ms. Pohlman said in her hiring memo. “I have admired Open Road’s mission, its list, and its pioneering business model since its launch in 2009, and I am thrilled by this opportunity not only to help lead the development and growth of the company, but to work with such an esteemed and innovative group of publishing professionals.”

In the past month, Open Road has also hired Nita Taublib and Betsy Mitchell, strategic advisors for romance and sci-fi/fantasy, respectively, and Marjorie Braman, consulting editorial director for so-called “E-riginals.”
